Ortus Recruitment is working in partnership with a thriving mainstream primary school in Tooting, which is seeking a compassionate, experienced and committed SEND Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a child with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and speech, language, and communication needs. This is a full-time role running until the end of the academic year, with a strong likelihood of continuation into the next academic year.

The Role:

As a 1:1 SEND Teaching Assistant, you’ll play a vital part in supporting a child’s academic, social, and emotional development. You will:

• Implement personalised learning strategies and communication tools tailored to individual needs
• Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to monitor progress and adjust support accordingly
• Deliver targeted interventions and help build essential life skills
• Encourage engagement, independence and confidence in learning
• Build strong, positive relationships with the child, staff, and parents to ensure consistent and high-quality support

Who We’re Looking For:

We’re keen to hear from candidates who are:

• Passionate about inclusive education and dedicated to supporting children with additional needs
• Knowledgeable about ASD and speech, language, and communication difficulties
• Adaptable and patient, with a proactive approach to problem-solving and engagement

Essential Criteria:

• Experience supporting children with SEND in a school or similar setting
• GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths
• Relevant qualification such as NVQ Level 2 in Supporting Teaching & Learning (or equivalent)
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with staff and families
• Confident using IT to support learning and maintain records
• A clear understanding of safeguarding and professional boundaries
