SEND Teaching Assistant
Location: Clapham – within a welcoming and diverse primary school
Salary: £90-£105 per day PAYE (dependent on experience)
Contract Type: Full-time – Monday to Friday, 08:30am to 16:00pm
Start Date: January 2025
Ortus Recruitment is seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEND Teaching Assistant to join a thriving primary school in Clapham. This exciting opportunity is ideal for individuals who are passionate about supporting children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and are eager to make a meaningful impact within an inclusive school environment.
The successful candidate will work closely with pupils with a range of needs, including Autism, ADHD, and Speech & Language difficulties, supporting their academic and personal development.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide tailored 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEND, ensuring their individual learning needs are met.
- Assist in the development and implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and adapt resources accordingly.
- Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment where all pupils feel valued and supported.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, parents, and external professionals to monitor and promote pupil progress.
- Support pupils with transitions, social integration, and behaviour management strategies to ensure a harmonious learning environment.
- Engage in classroom activities and offer general assistance to support the day-to-day functioning of the class.
Essential Requirements:
- Prior experience supporting children with SEND is highly desirable, with a particular focus on those with EHCPs.
- A patient, empathetic, and proactive approach to working with children to support their learning and emotional well-being.
- A strong understanding of child protection and safeguarding protocols.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships with colleagues, parents, and external agencies.
- Relevant qualifications (such as Level 2/3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning, or equivalent) are an advantage but not essential.
