Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo)

Ortus Recruitment is working with a 4-form entry mainstream primary school in Tooting to recruit an experienced Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo) to join their team on a part-time and permanent basis. This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate and dedicated individual with a background in special educational needs to join a dynamic and supportive team.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinating and leading on the provision for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) within the school
  • Implementing and reviewing the SEND policy and ensuring that it is in line with the requirements of the SEND Code of Practice
  • Identifying and assessing children with SEND and ensuring that their needs are met through effective planning, implementation, and monitoring of individual education plans
  • Coordinating with external agencies and professionals to ensure that pupils with SEND receive the appropriate support and provision
  • Providing training and support to teaching and support staff to ensure they have the skills and knowledge to meet the needs of pupils with SEND
  • Ensuring that parents and carers are involved in the provision for their child and kept informed of their progress

Requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or relevant experience working with SEND
  • Hold the National Award for SEN Coordination or willingness to work towards this qualification
  • Experience of working with pupils with SEND in a primary school setting
  • Knowledge of SEND legislation and the SEND Code of Practice
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to lead and manage a team
  • Good organisational skills and attention to detail

The successful candidate will be subject to a DBS check and two satisfactory references.
