Sports Coach & Teaching Assistant – Supporting Active Learning & Pupil Development

Location: Southwark
Type: Full-Time | Long-Term | Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 4:00pm
Salary: £90 – £105 per day (depending on experience and role)
Start: After Easter Holidays (but must be able to trial immediately)

Ortus Recruitment is seeking an enthusiastic and proactive Sports Coach & Classroom Assistant to join one of our welcoming partner primary schools in the London Borough of Southwark. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone passionate about sports, physical activity, and supporting children’s development both inside and outside the classroom.

You will play a key role in delivering engaging physical activities, promoting teamwork and healthy lifestyles, while also assisting teachers with classroom learning and pupil support.


Key Responsibilities:
• Support the delivery of engaging PE lessons, sports sessions, and active play activities
• Encourage pupil participation, teamwork, and positive sportsmanship during activities
• Assist the class teacher with day-to-day classroom support and learning activities
• Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils who require additional help with learning or engagement
• Promote a positive, safe, and inclusive environment both in the classroom and during physical activities
• Help organise playground activities, sports clubs, or after-school sports sessions where required
• Support pupils’ physical, social, and emotional development through encouragement and positive reinforcement
• Assist with classroom behaviour management and help maintain a calm and productive learning environment
• Communicate effectively with teachers and staff regarding pupil progress and engagement


Ideal Candidate:
• Experience working with children in a school, sports coaching, or youth setting
• A passion for sports, physical education, and encouraging active lifestyles in young people
• Confident supporting pupils with varying learning abilities and needs
• A positive, energetic, and patient personality
• Strong communication skills and ability to build positive relationships with pupils and staff
• A proactive, flexible, and team-oriented attitude
• Relevant sports coaching qualifications or experience are desirable but not essential
