Teaching Assistant

Ortus Recruitment is proud to partner with a vibrant school located in Oval that is seeking dedicated Teaching Assistants to join their team. This is an excellent opportunity to play a crucial role in supporting students’ learning and development in a dynamic educational environment.

Main Purpose of Post:

As a Teaching Assistant, you will work under the guidance of teaching and senior staff to facilitate students’ access to learning activities, manage classroom dynamics, and provide care and support where necessary. Your work may be carried out within the classroom or in other designated areas for short periods.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

Support for Pupils:

  • Supervise and provide tailored support to students, including those with special needs, ensuring their safety during learning activities.
  • Assist in the development and execution of Individual Education/Behaviour Plans and Personal Care programs.
  • Build positive relationships with students and adapt interactions to meet individual needs.
  • Promote inclusivity and acceptance among all students.
  • Encourage student engagement in teacher-led activities and foster self-esteem and independence.
  • Offer constructive feedback on student progress and achievements under the teacher’s guidance.
  • Address minor incidents and attend to the health and hygiene needs of students as necessary.
  • Engage in reading sessions with individual students and groups, maintaining reading records as instructed by the class teacher.
  • Collaborate with the teacher to work with small groups of students and take responsibility for their learning.

Support for the Teacher:

  • Create and maintain an organized and supportive environment in line with lesson plans, including displaying student work.
  • Collaborate with the teacher to implement strategies that help students achieve their learning goals.
  • Assist in planning and organizing learning activities.
  • Monitor student responses to learning activities and accurately record progress and achievements as directed.
  • Provide detailed and regular feedback to teachers on student performance.
  • Foster good behavior among students, promptly addressing conflicts and incidents in accordance with school policies.
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with parents/carers, providing constructive feedback on student progress and achievements and facilitating their involvement in their child’s education.
  • Administer routine tests, invigilate exams, and undertake routine marking of student work.
  • Work within a structured system of supervision with small groups of students, taking charge of their learning.
  • Support the school’s induction program, including participating in parent-teacher meetings as appropriate.

Support for the School:

  • Adhere to policies and procedures related to child protection, health, safety, security, confidentiality, and data protection, reporting concerns as required.
  • Contribute to the school’s overall ethos, aims, and objectives.
  • Attend and actively participate in relevant meetings.
  • Engage in training and professional development activities as necessary.
  • Assist in supervising students outside of regular lesson times, including before and after school and during lunchtime.
  • Accompany teaching staff and students on visits, trips, and extracurricular activities, taking responsibility for a group under the teacher’s supervision.
  • Contribute to the general upkeep of the school environment by tidying common areas.
  • Establish effective communication with other agencies/professionals, in coordination with the teacher, to support student achievement and progress.
