Teaching Assistant (EYFS)

Ortus Recruitment are seeking a 1:1 Learning Support Assistant for a EYFS pupil in a mainstream primary school based in the Wandsworth Borough.

This role would be to begin at the start of our new academic year in September 2024. The ideal candidate will be patient, attentive and dedicated to supporting the child by catering to their specific educational or SEND needs. You will work as part of a team to ensure that the well-being and personal, social and emotional development of the pupil enhances their learning opportunities and life skills. This requires an organised, enthusiastic, hard-working team player with excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Someone with an early years background and good knowledge of the EYFS
  • Someone with experience of working with therapist and implementing daily therapy-based activities (SALT and OT)
  • Someone who has 1:1 experience and is happy to work collaboratively with the class teacher/nursery manager in supporting the day-to-day

Job Description:

  • To provide 1-1 learning support for a pupil in the EYFS (Nursery or Reception, in the first instance).
  • To quickly develop knowledge of the needs of the child and seek advice from the SENDCo, class teacher and outside agencies as required
  • To aid access to the full range of learning experiences both inside and outside the classroom and provide modified materials as required (i.e. games and visual prompt cards) that follow the goals on the child’s Individual Learning Plan.
  • To work as part of the team to ensure that the wellbeing and personal, social and emotional development of the pupil enhances their learning opportunities and life skills
  • To provide regular feedback to the teacher, family and SENDCo
  • To contribute to the pupil’s school report and parents’ meetings
  • To foster links between home and school
  • To understand and apply the school policies on learning and behaviour and the statutory guidelines relating to disability discrimination and special educational needs
  • To maintain confidentiality and sensitivity to the pupil’s needs but have regards to the safeguarding procedures of the school
  • To monitor the social well-being of the pupils you support
  • To encourage each child to reach his / her individual potential
  • To ensure the safety of pupils both in and outside of the school, having regard to the school’s Health & Safety Policy and Safeguarding procedures
  • To raise any significant concerns about a child with the Headmaster, SLT and colleagues
  • To monitor and ensure the safety of the child to which you are assigned
