Teaching Assistant – Sheffield

About the Role

We are looking for a passionate and dedicated 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant to join a Primary School in Sheffield, supporting children with complex special educational needs, including Autism. This role offers a unique opportunity to make a meaningful difference in a nurturing and structured environment.

  • Start Date: Immediate
  • Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 4:00pm
  • Contract Type: Long-term, full-time

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver tailored 1:1 support to pupils with behavioural and emotional challenges
  • Assist with aspects of personal care where required
  • Support pupils’ academic, emotional, and social development
  • Work closely with teaching staff and external professionals to implement effective support strategies
  • Help maintain a calm, safe, and engaging learning atmosphere that promotes progress and wellbeing

Who We’re Looking For

You’ll thrive in this role if you are calm under pressure, proactive, and deeply empathetic. We’re looking for someone who can be both firm and nurturing, with a genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs.

Desirable Qualities:

  • Proven experience managing challenging behaviour
  • Background in working with SEN pupils, either in education or care settings
  • Experience in mentoring or supporting young people in behavioural roles is highly advantageous
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills

Requirements

  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply through Ortus Recruitment)
  • Proof of Right to Work in the UK
  • Two recent, relevant references
