Teaching Assistant with ASC Focus

We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Teaching Assistant with a focus on supporting students with Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC) to join our team at a school in South Croydon.
The successful candidate will work alongside the classroom teacher to support the learning and development of students with ASC. You will need to have a good understanding of the characteristics of ASC and be able to provide appropriate support to meet the individual needs of students.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supporting students with ASC in the classroom, ensuring that they are engaged in their learning and making progress.
- Providing one-to-one or small group support to students with ASC, both inside and outside of the classroom.
- Developing and implementing strategies to support the social, emotional and behavioural needs of students with ASC.
- Supporting the teacher in planning and delivering appropriate lessons and activities for students with ASC.
- Communicating regularly with parents/carers, providing feedback on student progress and discussing any concerns.
Essential Requirements:
- Experience of working with students with ASC, either in a school or other educational setting.
- A good understanding of the characteristics of ASC and strategies for supporting students with ASC.
- A patient, calm and empathetic approach to working with students with ASC.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, teachers, parents/carers and other professionals.
- A flexible and adaptable approach to work, with the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Desirable Requirements:
- A relevant qualification, such as a Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification or a degree in Education or Psychology.
- Experience of using specific interventions or approaches to support students with ASC, such as TEACCH or Social Stories.
- Knowledge of other special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and strategies for supporting students with SEND.
