Ortus Recruitment are seeking a Teaching Assistant to work with Year 1 and older pupils in a vibrant mainstream primary school. This position is ideal for someone who is enthusiastic, patient, and compassionate, and who is eager to make a genuine difference in children’s academic and personal development.

Key Responsibilities:

• Support the class teacher in planning and delivering creative and engaging lessons.
• Work closely with pupils in 1:1 and small-group settings, helping them with classwork and homework.
• Assist in setting up, organising, and maintaining the classroom environment throughout the day.
• Provide support for pupils’ social, emotional, and mental wellbeing (SEMH) to encourage confidence and positive learning attitudes.
• Communicate effectively with teachers, parents, and pupils to ensure consistent support and progress.
• Help prepare learning materials, complete administrative tasks such as printing and filing, and assist in lesson preparation.
• Participate in after-school clubs and extracurricular activities when required.
• Offer tailored assistance to children with special educational needs (SEN), both individually and in groups.

Requirements:

• Previous classroom-based experience working face-to-face with children (preferred).
• Experience supporting children with SEN, both in small groups and 1:1 settings (preferred).
• Comfortable working with pupils from Year 1 and upwards.
• Flexible, proactive, and adaptable when managing different learning needs and behaviours.
• A strong work ethic and a passion for supporting children from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
