Here at Ortus Recruitment, we are seeking an Unqualified SEN Teaching Assistant to join one of our fantastic SEN provisions (Primary School) on a full time, long term basis. We are seeking someone who has experience either working alongside children and/or young people with Special Educational Needs or has experience working with Vulnerable Adults/Young people in a care, residential, school or social setting. The school is located in the London Borough of Lewisham, Deptford. The school has pupils with ASC, ADHD, SEMH and SLD. We are seeking someone who is confident and resilient when it comes to working alongside children with special educational needs. Someone with experience managing challenging behaviour.

The ideal candidate will:

• Have experience working alongside children and/or young people with special educational needs or working with vulnerable adults/young people in a care, residential, school or social setting.
• Be confident, patience and resilience when it comes to working alongside children as the role can be quite challenging
• Be passionate about working with children and dedicated to helping them develop important life skills such as emotional, social and mental skills
• Be driven to succeed within this role
• Be able to commit to full time, long term work (Monday – Friday, 08:30 – 16:00)
• Be able to build a good rapport with pupils and staff
• Be able to help maintain a calm working environment for pupils and ensure their safety all the time
• Will have a clear Enhanced Child Workforce DBS on the update service or be willing to process one through Ortus Recruitment – £52

Within this role, the successful candidate will be responsible for working alongside the Class Teacher in a Year 3, resource based class. The class has 6 pupils, all of which have special educational needs. 3 of the pupils have 1:1’s, so you will be responsible for assisting the Class Teacher in supporting the other 3. You will need to supervise the pupils whilst they are in therapy sessions in the school and help maintain calm behaviour. You will be required to liaise with the Class Teacher, the SENCO and the parents/carers to ensure the pupils are getting the necessary support. You will also be responsible for undertaking some administrative duties given to you by the Class Teacher which includes collecting lunch for the pupils from the lunch hall and helping to set out pupils packed lunch if necessary.
