Location: London Borough of Lambeth
Contract Type: Full-time, Monday – Friday (08:30am – 4pm)
Salary: £85 – £105 per day PAYE


Ortus Recruitment is delighted to partner with a vibrant and forward-thinking mainstream primary school in the London Borough of Lambeth, which is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Unqualified Teaching Assistant (GTA). This is a wonderful opportunity for individuals passionate about supporting young learners and looking to develop a career in education. You will play a crucial role in supporting both the academic and personal development of pupils, contributing to a positive and inclusive learning environment that enables all children to succeed.

Key Responsibilities:

As an Unqualified Teaching Assistant, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Classroom Support: Collaborating with the teaching team to provide meaningful support within the classroom, helping to facilitate engaging lessons and personalised learning.
  • Individual and Group Support: Providing tailored support to individual students, assisting them in achieving their specific learning goals. You will also lead small group tutoring sessions to ensure all students are making excellent progress.
  • Behavioural Support: Helping to maintain a positive classroom environment by supporting students in meeting high behavioural expectations and encouraging respectful, inclusive interactions.
  • Breaktime Supervision: Overseeing pupils during break and lunch times, ensuring their safety, well-being, and positive social interaction with their peers.
  • Safeguarding: Understanding and fulfilling your responsibility to safeguard pupils, following school protocols and reporting any concerns to the safeguarding lead.
  • Interventions: Leading and assisting with the delivery of academic and pastoral interventions both inside and outside the classroom, helping students reach their full potential.

Person Specification:

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have a genuine passion for supporting children’s development and an unwavering belief in the potential of every pupil.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to learning and growing within the education sector, and a drive to improve standards and achieve excellence.
  • Be aligned with the school’s ethos and approach to curriculum delivery and teaching.
  • Possess up-to-date knowledge of the curriculum, or a strong willingness to develop this expertise.
  • Be enthusiastic, approachable, and able to inspire and motivate children to excel.
  • Exhibit excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, pupils, and parents.
  • Be dedicated to maintaining a high standard of behaviour, attendance, and achievement in all pupils.
  • Understand the importance of safeguarding and child protection and adhere to school policies.

Desirable Qualifications and Skills:

  • Previous experience working with children in an educational setting is an advantage, but not a requirement.
  • A commitment to furthering your qualifications and career in education.
  • Experience supporting or leading small group interventions or tutoring is desirable.
