Unqualified Teaching Assistant

Ortus Recruitment is proud to be working in close partnership with a high-achieving, welcoming mainstream primary school in Tooting. The school is currently seeking a committed and enthusiastic Unqualified Teaching Assistant to join their team on a full-time, long-term basis.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to take their first steps into education, gain hands-on classroom experience, and support pupils with a range of needs — particularly those with Special Educational Needs (SEN).

About the school:

  • Rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted, with strong leadership and a nurturing ethos.
  • Focused on developing the whole child – academically, socially, and emotionally.
  • A diverse, inclusive setting with a welcoming and supportive staff team.
  • Committed to ongoing training and development for all staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide in-class support across Key Stage 1 or Key Stage 2, working closely with the class teacher to deliver high-quality learning experiences.
  • Offer targeted support to pupils with Special Educational Needs (including ASD), helping them to access the curriculum and develop confidence.
  • Assist with managing classroom behaviour positively and consistently.
  • Lead small group interventions or one-to-one activities to reinforce learning.
  • Support pupils during transitions and help create a safe, stimulating learning environment.
  • Contribute to classroom organisation and ensure learning materials are prepared and maintained.

What we’re looking for:

  • Experience working with children in any setting (school-based experience preferred but not essential).
  • A strong interest in working within education and supporting pupils with additional needs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience, adaptability, and a willingness to learn on the job.
  • A proactive and dependable individual who enjoys working as part of a collaborative team.
  • A valid Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).

Benefits:

  • A chance to work in a reputable, forward-thinking primary school in the heart of Tooting.
  • Opportunities to gain valuable classroom experience ahead of future training or education roles.
  • Support from an experienced recruitment team that specialises in education placements.
  • Potential for long-term progression within the school for the right candidate.

If you are passionate about working with children and keen to pursue a rewarding role in education, we would love to hear from you.
