Year 6 Teaching Assistant
The team at Ortus Recruitment are looking for a Teaching Assistant to prepare children for their future by supporting in their emotional, social and academic development. The schools we work with are Ofsted rated ‘Good‘ or ‘Outstanding‘, provide training and CPD courses to ensure career progression and offer consistent support and motivation. We are currently recruiting for a Year 6 Teaching Assistant to join the team in a mainstream primary school in the London Borough of Barnet. You will play a fundamental role in helping them develop their personalities and minds by exposing them to ideas and experiences that will help them gain a solid grounding in the world.
The ideal candidate will have experience working in Year 6 as well as adept knowledge of the KS2 curriculum to effectively engage children in lessons and interventions in order to raise attainment and prepare pupils for SATs. You will also be expected to be a role model for pupils, help to create a positive learning environment and foster excellent behaviour.
Responsibilities:
- Assist the lead teacher in implementing lesson plans and educational activities
- Provide one-on-one support to students with special needs, including those with autism
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and other staff members
- Help create a positive and inclusive learning environment
- Monitor student progress and provide feedback to the lead teacher
- Assist with classroom management and behaviour management strategies
Expectations:
- Previous experience working with children, especially those with special needs
- Knowledge of tutoring and mentoring techniques
- Familiarity with autism and strategies for supporting students with autism
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
- Patience, empathy, and a passion for working with children
