Graduate Teaching Assistant

Ortus Recruitment is delighted to be working in partnership with a mainstream primary school in Roehampton that is home to a dedicated resource base supporting pupils with additional needs. The school is currently seeking a compassionate and proactive Graduate Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a pupil with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). This is a fantastic opportunity for a graduate who is passionate about inclusive education and looking to gain hands-on experience in a specialist setting. Ideal for those considering a future career in education, psychology, or therapy.

Your Role:

  • Deliver focused 1:1 support for a pupil with ASD, helping them access learning and remain engaged throughout the day
  • Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to implement and monitor an individual education plan (IEP)
  • Offer emotional reassurance and consistent structure to help the pupil feel safe, supported, and confident
  • Adapt classroom materials and communication approaches to suit the pupil’s needs
  • Support positive behaviour and encourage the development of social and life skills

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • A degree (ideally in Psychology, Education, or related fields)
  • Some previous experience working with children or young people with SEND (in school, tutoring, mentoring, or voluntary roles)
  • A patient, empathetic and nurturing approach to supporting learning and behaviour
  • A strong team ethic and excellent communication skills
  • A genuine desire to make a positive difference in a pupil’s educational journey
