KS1 Learning Support Assistant
Ortus Recruitment is currently working in partnership with a welcoming mainstream primary school in Wandsworth that is looking to appoint a committed and enthusiastic KS1 Learning Support Assistant to join their team immediately. This full-time role will involve supporting a pupil in a Year 2 class who requires additional behavioural and academic support, while also assisting the wider classroom environment alongside the class teacher.
This is an excellent opportunity for graduates or experienced support staff who are passionate about helping young learners thrive in education and develop both academically and socially.
Please note: Applicants must be available to trial immediately with no notice period. An enhanced DBS on the Update Service is required, or applicants must be willing to apply for one straight away.
The Role:
- Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a pupil within a Year 2 classroom
- Support the class teacher with day-to-day classroom activities and learning tasks
- Deliver targeted interventions to help improve engagement, behaviour, and learning outcomes
- Assist with classroom administration, including marking, reading records, and preparing resources
- Encourage positive behaviour and build strong relationships with pupils and staff
- Help create a safe, engaging, and inclusive learning environment
Candidate Requirements:
To be considered for this position, you should have:
- An Enhanced Child Workforce DBS on the Update Service, or be willing to obtain one through Ortus Recruitment
- Two recent and relevant childcare references
- A degree qualification or relevant experience working with children
- GCSE English and Maths at Grade C/Level 4 or above
- Full-time availability Monday to Friday (8:30am – 4:00pm)
- A positive, proactive, and resilient attitude

- Have previous experience working with children through tutoring, coaching, mentoring, nannying, or school-based roles
- Be confident supporting pupils with challenging behaviour
- Demonstrate patience, empathy, and strong communication skills
- Be passionate about supporting children’s learning and personal development
- Be able to commit to a long-term full-time role
