Behaviour Mentor

Ortus Recruitment is currently seeking a motivated and compassionate Behaviour Mentor to join a supportive school in Brixton on a full-time basis. This rewarding opportunity is ideal for individuals who are passionate about supporting children with behavioural needs and helping pupils overcome barriers to learning. The successful candidate will work closely with students across KS1 and KS2 who require additional support with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and challenging behaviour. The role will involve providing both in-class and out-of-class support, helping pupils regulate their emotions, improve engagement, and reach their academic potential.

The Role:

  • Support pupils with SEMH needs and challenging behaviour throughout the school day
  • Work closely with class teachers and SEN staff to implement behaviour support strategies
  • Provide 1:1 and small group interventions to encourage positive behaviour and emotional regulation
  • Build positive relationships with pupils to promote confidence, engagement, and personal development
  • Support students both inside and outside of the classroom environment
  • Encourage a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning atmosphere

Ideal Candidate:

We are looking for someone who is resilient, enthusiastic, and committed to making a positive difference in the lives of young people. Previous experience within education or child-focused settings is beneficial, particularly in the following areas:

  • SEMH support
  • Behaviour management
  • SEN experience, including Autism (ASD) and ADHD
  • Youth work or mentoring
  • Sports coaching
  • Teaching Assistant or Learning Support roles

Requirements:

  • Ability to attend interviews and trial days at short notice
  • Enhanced Child Workforce DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • A calm, patient, and proactive approach when supporting pupils
