ORTUS Recruitment is proud to be working in partnership with a highly supportive and specialist SEN school in the London Borough of Wandsworth, currently seeking an experienced and dedicated Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join their team on a full-time basis. This rewarding opportunity is ideal for a skilled Teaching Assistant or qualified HLTA who is passionate about supporting children with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), and additional complex needs within a nurturing educational environment.

HLTA – Role Overview

  • Full-time position, Monday to Friday
  • Working hours: 08:30am – 4:00pm
  • Long-term opportunity with potential for permanent placement
  • Daily pay: £120 – £150 PAYE (No Umbrella Pay/No Hidden Deductions)
  • Based in the London Borough of Wandsworth
  • Supporting pupils with ASC, PMLD, sensory, communication, and physical needs
  • Working closely alongside Teachers, Therapists, and SEN professionals

Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting the delivery of differentiated and engaging lessons tailored to individual pupil needs
  • Leading small group learning sessions and interventions
  • Providing classroom cover when required
  • Offering dedicated 1:1 support to pupils with complex learning needs
  • Supporting communication through PECS, Makaton, AAC devices, or visual aids
  • Encouraging pupil independence, emotional regulation, and social development
  • Assisting with personal care and mobility support where necessary
  • Helping to create a positive, safe, and inclusive learning environment

The Ideal Candidate Will:

  • Have previous experience working within an SEN school or specialist setting
  • Hold HLTA status or possess substantial experience as a Teaching Assistant
  • Be confident supporting pupils with ASC, PMLD, and complex needs
  • Demonstrate patience, resilience, and a nurturing approach
  • Have excellent teamwork and communication skills
  • Be passionate about making a meaningful difference in the lives of young people
