Ortus Recruitment is excited to be partnering with a welcoming and well-resourced mainstream primary school in Merton that is seeking a passionate and proactive EYFS Teaching Assistant to join their Early Years team.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who genuinely enjoys supporting young children during the earliest stages of their education and development. The school is looking for an enthusiastic individual who can contribute positively to a nurturing, creative, and engaging learning environment where every child is encouraged to thrive both academically and personally.
The successful candidate will work closely alongside experienced EYFS Teachers and Early Years practitioners to support high-quality teaching and learning throughout the Reception setting. The role will involve encouraging child-led exploration, supporting structured learning activities, and helping children build confidence, independence, and strong social skills.
This opportunity would suit experienced EYFS practitioners, Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistants, childcare professionals, or graduates looking to gain valuable experience within a supportive primary school environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supporting the class teacher and Early Years team with the delivery of engaging and creative EYFS learning activities
- Encouraging child-led learning through play-based and interactive experiences
- Assisting pupils with communication, literacy, numeracy, and social development
- Helping to create a stimulating and inclusive classroom environment that encourages curiosity and participation
- Supporting observations and assessments to track children’s progress and achievements
- Assisting in the preparation of classroom displays, learning materials, and engaging resources
- Building positive relationships with pupils, staff, and parents
- Promoting positive behaviour, emotional wellbeing, and independence throughout the school day
- Ensuring the learning environment remains safe, supportive, and well organised at all times
- Supporting children with varying abilities and ensuring every pupil feels included and valued
The Ideal Candidate Will:
- Have previous experience working within an EYFS or primary school setting
- Hold GCSE Maths and English at Grade C/4 or above (or equivalent)
- Demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Be confident working independently and using initiative when required
- Have a nurturing, patient, and positive approach to supporting children
- Be passionate about Early Years education and child development
- Be willing to work towards further qualifications such as a Level 3 NVQ if not already held
- Have a strong understanding of safeguarding and child welfare responsibilities
- Be confident using classroom technology and educational resources
Desirable Experience & Qualifications:
- EYFS classroom experience
- CACHE, NVQ, NNEB, or other childcare-related qualifications
- Experience supporting phonics, early literacy, or speech and language development
- Understanding of the EYFS framework and child-centred learning approaches
