Ortus Recruitment is currently working alongside a welcoming and ambitious mainstream primary school in Streatham that is looking to appoint a dedicated Teaching Assistant to join their supportive team. The Role

As a Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with class teachers and support staff to provide high-quality classroom support and targeted interventions. You will help pupils remain engaged in their learning, build confidence, and overcome barriers to achievement.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting teaching and learning across the primary curriculum
  • Working with individual pupils and small groups to reinforce learning objectives
  • Assisting teachers with lesson preparation and classroom organisation
  • Supporting children with varying learning needs, including those with Special Educational Needs (SEN)
  • Encouraging positive behaviour and promoting a respectful learning environment
  • Helping pupils develop confidence, independence, and social skills
  • Monitoring pupil engagement and providing feedback to teaching staff
  • Supporting the emotional wellbeing and personal development of children
  • Building positive relationships with pupils, staff, parents, and carers
  • Contributing to the wider life of the school community

The Ideal Candidate

The school is looking for a caring, proactive, and adaptable individual who is passionate about supporting children’s learning and development.

Applicants should ideally have:

  • Previous experience working with children aged 5–11 years old
  • Experience supporting teaching and learning within a school or educational setting
  • Experience working with children with Special Educational Needs
  • Knowledge of behaviour management strategies and experience supporting positive behaviour in a classroom environment
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • A positive and enthusiastic attitude towards learning and child development
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team as well as independently
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to use initiative
  • A genuine commitment to helping every child succeed

Graduates looking to gain valuable school-based experience before pursuing teacher training, educational psychology, speech and language therapy, or other child-focused professions are encouraged to apply.
