SEN Teaching Assistant
Ortus Recruitment is currently partnering with a welcoming and inclusive mainstream primary school in Putney that is seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join their support team. The successful candidate will work closely with class teachers, the SENCO, and external professionals to support pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, complex learning needs, medical conditions, and social, emotional, and behavioural challenges. The Role
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will provide tailored support to pupils across different year groups, helping them access learning, regulate emotions, and develop confidence both inside and outside the classroom.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Supporting pupils with Autism, ADHD, and additional learning needs on a 1:1 and small group basis
- Assisting children with communication, social interaction, and emotional regulation
- Supporting pupils with medical needs and following individual care plans where required
- Implementing behaviour support strategies and promoting positive engagement in learning
- Working closely with teachers to adapt activities and resources to meet individual learning needs
- Encouraging independence, resilience, and self-confidence
- Assisting with classroom routines and maintaining a positive learning environment
- Recording observations and contributing to pupil progress reviews
- Building strong relationships with pupils, staff, parents, and external agencies
The Ideal Candidate

Applicants should ideally have:
- Previous experience working with children in a school, SEN setting, alternative provision, care environment, or youth support role
- Experience supporting children with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, or complex learning needs
- Knowledge of behaviour management techniques and positive intervention strategies
- Experience supporting children with medical needs such as epilepsy or similar health conditions (desirable)
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- The ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations
- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
- A proactive and flexible approach to supporting learning
- High expectations for pupil achievement and personal development
