1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant
Ortus Recruitment is currently working with a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Streatham that is seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team immediately. This rewarding role will initially involve providing 1:1 support for pupils with high levels of additional needs, including working within the school’s specialist resource provision for part of the day. There will also be opportunities to support small groups, deliver targeted interventions, and work closely with teaching staff to ensure all pupils can access learning and achieve their potential. As pupil needs evolve, responsibilities may develop over time, making this an excellent opportunity for a flexible and adaptable professional looking to make a lasting impact.
The Role
- Provide dedicated 1:1 support for pupils with additional learning and developmental needs.
- Support children within the school’s resource provision and mainstream classroom environment.
- Deliver targeted interventions and small group support sessions.
- Work from EHCP targets and support plans to help pupils achieve their individual outcomes.
- Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs, therapists, and other external professionals.
- Support pupils’ academic progress, social development, emotional wellbeing, and independence.
- Promote a positive, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment.
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for someone who:
- Is proactive, practical, positive, warm, and compassionate.
- Has experience working with children across a range of ages and abilities.
- Has experience supporting pupils with a variety of special educational needs, including:
- ADHD
- Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
- Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA)
- Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN)
- Pre-verbal children
- Has experience delivering interventions and working towards EHCP outcomes.
- Can build strong, positive relationships with pupils and understands the importance of supporting social and emotional development.
- Is calm, patient, and resilient when faced with challenges.
- Is flexible and able to adapt to changing situations and pupil needs.
- Is enthusiastic, hardworking, and committed to making a difference in children’s lives.
