1:1 Teaching Assistant
Job Overview:
A Primary School is seeking a dedicated and compassionate 1:1 Teaching Assistant to provide personalized support to a student with special educational needs. The successful candidate will work closely with the classroom teacher and the Special Education Coordinator to create a nurturing and effective learning environment tailored to the student’s unique requirements. This role is crucial in helping the student achieve academic success and personal growth.
Key Responsibilities:
- Individualized Student Support:
- Provide dedicated support to one student with special educational needs throughout the school day.
- Implement individualized education plans (IEPs) and specific strategies to meet the student’s learning goals.
- Assist with academic tasks, including reading, writing, and math activities, ensuring concepts are understood and retained.
- Behavioral and Emotional Support:
- Foster a positive and encouraging environment to support the student’s social and emotional development.
- Implement behavior management strategies as outlined in the student’s IEP.
- Provide guidance and support during emotional or behavioral challenges, promoting resilience and self-regulation.
- Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with the classroom teacher to adapt and modify lesson plans according to the student’s needs.
- Maintain open communication with parents, teachers, and other staff regarding the student’s progress and any concerns.
- Participate in IEP meetings and contribute to the development and review of the student’s goals.
- Daily Assistance:
- Assist the student with daily routines, including transitioning between activities and managing personal care needs if required.
- Supervise the student during recess, lunch, and other school activities to ensure safety and inclusion.
- Provide additional support during school trips and extracurricular activities.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Keep detailed records of the student’s progress, behavior, and any incidents that occur.
- Prepare regular reports for the classroom teacher and Special Education Coordinator.
- Assist in the preparation of materials and resources to support the student’s learning.
Qualifications:
- Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent (required).
- Associate’s degree or higher in education, special education, or a related field (preferred).
- Experience:
- Previous experience working with children in an educational setting (preferred).
- Experience supporting students with special educational needs (advantageous).
- Skills:
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine interest in working with children.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
- Basic organizational and administrative skills.
- Ability to follow instructions and adapt to various teaching styles.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and move materials up to [weight] pounds.
- Comfortable working in a classroom environment with young children.
