Role Overview:
As a 1:1 Teaching Assistant, you will work directly with a child in Key Stage 1 who has Autism, providing tailored support both in and outside the classroom. This full-time role will run for the academic year, with the potential to continue into the next academic year and beyond, offering a rewarding opportunity for career development.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide dedicated 1:1 support to a KS1 pupil with Autism, ensuring their individual needs are met in the classroom environment.
• Work closely with the class teacher to deliver personalised lesson plans and adapt learning materials to suit the pupil’s needs.
• Use a child-centred approach to support the pupil’s social, emotional, and academic development.
• Assist with the pupil’s communication, focusing on strategies such as PECS or Makaton (training in these areas is highly desirable).
• Implement behaviour management strategies and offer proactive support to encourage positive learning outcomes.
• Assist in the planning and delivery of daily and weekly lesson plans tailored to the pupil’s needs.

What We Are Looking For:

• Previous experience working with children with Autism is essential.
• School-based experience as a Teaching Assistant is highly desirable.
• A proactive, patient, and empathetic approach to working with children with special educational needs.
• Experience with PECS, Makaton, or other communication tools is highly preferred.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to build rapport with pupils, parents, and staff.
• A genuine passion for making a difference in the lives of children with Autism.
