Ortus Recruitment is excited to partner with a well-regarded primary school in Brixton, London, to find a dedicated and experienced 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support a child with Autism.

Role Overview:
As a 1:1 Teaching Assistant, you will work directly with a child in Key Stage 1 who has Autism, providing tailored support both in and outside the classroom. This full-time role will run for the academic year, with the potential to continue into the next academic year and beyond, offering a rewarding opportunity for career development.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide dedicated 1:1 support to a KS1 pupil with Autism, ensuring their individual needs are met in the classroom environment.
- Work closely with the class teacher to deliver personalised lesson plans and adapt learning materials to suit the pupil’s needs.
- Use a child-centred approach to support the pupil’s social, emotional, and academic development.
- Assist with the pupil’s communication, focusing on strategies such as PECS or Makaton (training in these areas is highly desirable).
- Implement behaviour management strategies and offer proactive support to encourage positive learning outcomes.
- Assist in the planning and delivery of daily and weekly lesson plans tailored to the pupil’s needs.
What We Are Looking For:
- Previous experience working with children with Autism is essential.
- School-based experience as a Teaching Assistant is highly desirable.
- A proactive, patient, and empathetic approach to working with children with special educational needs.
- Experience with PECS, Makaton, or other communication tools is highly preferred.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build rapport with pupils, parents, and staff.
- A genuine passion for making a difference in the lives of children with Autism.
