Here at Ortus Recruitment we are seeking a Learning Support Assistant, with experience of supporting Special Educational Needs pupils. The school we are working with is a Mainstream Primary School located in the London Borough of Southwark, Walworth. The role is working in a small Resource Based Year 4 Class (SEN Class) which consists of 8 pupils, with needs consisting of ASD and SLD.

• Role: Full time, Long term, Monday – Friday (08:30 – 16:00)

The school are seeking someone who is experienced in a classroom setting, supporting children as a general TA and also working 1:1 and in small groups. The ideal candidate would be someone with some knowledge about Autism and Speech and Language Disorder, and/or someone with hands on experience working alongside SEN learners in a care, residential, school or care setting. We need someone who is patient and resilient, able to display effective problem solving skills and can motivate both pupils and staff members.

The successful candidate must have TWO obtainable childcare relevant references and a clear Enhanced Child Workforce DBS on the update service.

Within this role, the successful candidate will be tasked with  joining a resource based Year 4 class as a general TA and assist the class teacher and other support staff in supporting the pupils. You will be required to work 1:1 within the classroom with learners and assist them with their daily tasks and activities as well as supervise them during snack time, playtime and lunchtime. You will be required to liaise with the Class Teacher, Professionals (therapists), the SENCO and Parents/Carers to ensure each pupil is getting the necessary support and to be able to provide feedback on the pupils progress. You will be responsible for trying to get the pupils to engage in learning and develop social, emotional and mental skills.
