Our fantastic client SEN school in Hayes, Hillingdon is looking for a long-term and full-time Behaviour Mentor to assist with managing challenging behaviour and support children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH) and Emotional and Behavioural Disorders (EBD).
You will be responsible for developing and delivering learning programmes to pupils aged 5-11 with behaviour difficulties. You will need to have an understanding of behaviour theory, manage behaviour effectively and have the ability to build strong relationships with pupils, families and other practitioners. You must have the ability to identify individual needs and create effective strategies to support pupils in the classroom to help positive development thrive.
You will also be responsible for providing one-on-one and small group support to children with special educational needs. You will be expected to identify, plan and implement effective strategies to enable children to access the curriculum, whilst providing a safe learning environment.
We are looking for a passionate individual who is willing to go the extra mile and has strong communication, organisational and problem-solving skills. Experience of working with children with special educational needs is essential, and a Level 3 qualification in Childcare and Education or a similar qualification is desirable.
Summary of SEN Teaching Assistant role:
- Supporting children presenting SEN, EBD and SEMH needs
- Knowledge and experience using de-escalation strategies
- Understanding of social, emotional, and mental health issues
- Must be patient, resilient and have a firm but fair approach
- Ability to enforce boundaries and stay consistent
- You will be supported by another Learning Support Assistant
- Prior experience dealing with severe behavioural needs and supporting SEN children
