Ortus Recruitment is currently seeking a Behaviour Support Mentor to join a friendly primary school in Merton. This rewarding role involves supporting the Head Teacher and classroom staff while helping pupils reach their full potential academically, socially and emotionally.

The successful candidate will have a genuine passion for supporting children and making a positive impact within an educational setting.

Applicants must be open to supporting pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN) in both mainstream and specialist primary school settings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Head Teacher with planning and delivering daily classroom activities.
  • Provide 1:1 support and work with small groups to promote learning and development.
  • Assist pupils with learning difficulties and those displaying challenging behaviour.
  • Prepare classroom resources before lessons and help maintain a tidy learning environment.
  • Carry out administrative duties including photocopying, filing, displaying pupils’ work, and recording and reporting key information to teachers and parents.
  • Build positive relationships with parents to promote effective communication and a supportive school community.
  • Help ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of all pupils by maintaining a safe learning environment.
  • Communicate effectively with children, teachers and parents.
  • Manage a variety of responsibilities while remaining attentive to the needs of both pupils and teaching staff.
  • Act as a positive Behaviour Support Mentor by providing one-to-one guidance and leading small group activities that encourage teamwork, confidence and positive social interaction.

Requirements

  • A genuine commitment to supporting children’s emotional, social and mental wellbeing.
  • Previous experience working with children.
  • Experience supporting children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) is desirable.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with pupils, parents and staff.
  • A patient, caring and dedicated approach to supporting children’s individual needs.
