Higher Level Teaching Assistant
Ortus Recruitment is delighted to offer an exciting opportunity for a dedicated and experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant to join a vibrant mainstream primary school in the Wandsworth area of London. This full-time, long-term role is set to start after the Easter Break, with the potential for a permanent position, if you perform well during the Summer Term.
This role is ideal for an HLTA with experience and the successful candidate will be working within a supportive and inclusive school environment.
Role Overview:
- Position: Level 3 Qualified HLTA (Higher Level Teaching Assistant)
- Location: Mainstream Primary School, Wandsworth, London
- Pay: £115 – £130 per day, PAYE – No hidden agency/umbrella fees
- Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday, 08:30 – 16:00
- Contract: long-term position starting after the Easter Break (April 2025)
Key Responsibilities:
- Support a group of pupils with SEMH and challenging behaviour in a mainstream classroom setting.
- Lead lessons and provide 1:1 and small group support, particularly when the class teacher is absent.
- Work collaboratively with class teachers and other support staff to ensure the academic and emotional needs of pupils are met.
- Create and maintain positive and supportive relationships with pupils, fostering an environment of trust and respect.
- Manage classroom behaviour effectively, ensuring a calm, productive learning environment.
- Assist in the planning and delivery of lessons to cater to the varying needs of pupils, adapting resources and approaches as necessary.
- Provide regular updates and reports on pupil progress to senior leadership.
What We Are Looking For:
- A Level 3 HLTA qualification (or equivalent) is essential.
- Proven experience working with children in a school setting, ideally in a similar role.
- Experience in leading a class or group of children in the absence of the teacher.
- Strong understanding of SEMH needs and challenging behaviour, with the ability to implement effective strategies.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with both pupils and staff.
- A resilient, patient, and empathetic approach to supporting children with complex needs.
- Strong academic background, ideally educated to degree level or equivalent.
- Clear Enhanced Child Workforce DBS on the Update Service or willingness to process one through Ortus Recruitment.
