KS1 Teaching Assistant
Ortus Recruitment is currently working in partnership with a highly regarded mainstream primary school in Kennington that is looking to appoint a dedicated and enthusiastic SEN Teaching Assistant to support pupils within Key Stage 1. The Role
As a KS1 SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting pupils both academically and personally, helping them to access the curriculum and make meaningful progress.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing dedicated 1:1 and small group support for pupils with Special Educational Needs
- Supporting children with learning, communication, and social development targets
- Assisting class teachers with the delivery of engaging and differentiated learning activities
- Implementing personalised support strategies and intervention programmes
- Encouraging positive behaviour, confidence, and independence
- Building strong relationships with pupils, staff, and parents
- Supporting children’s emotional wellbeing and engagement in learning
- Monitoring progress and providing feedback to teaching staff
- Promoting a safe, inclusive, and nurturing classroom environment
The Ideal Candidate
The school is seeking a patient, proactive, and caring individual who is passionate about supporting children with additional needs.
Applicants should ideally have:
- Previous experience supporting children with SEN within a school or educational setting
- Experience working with pupils in Key Stage 1 or Key Stage 2
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- A positive and adaptable approach to supporting learning
- The ability to build positive relationships with children and colleagues
- A genuine interest in child development and inclusive education
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting children’s welfare
Highly Desirable:
- A degree in a core academic subject or a relevant field
- Experience supporting pupils with Autism, ADHD, Speech & Language Needs, or SEMH
- Knowledge of intervention strategies and differentiated learning approaches
