Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated PMLD (Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities) Teaching Assistant to join our specialised educational team. This role involves supporting children with complex needs, including autism and other disabilities, within a nurturing and inclusive environment. The successful candidate will play a vital part in facilitating personalised learning experiences, promoting independence, and ensuring the well-being of pupils with profound learning difficulties. Duties
- Assist teachers in delivering tailored educational programmes for children with PMLD and autism
- Support pupils with daily activities, including personal care and mobility needs, in accordance with individual care plans
- Implement sensory activities and communication strategies to foster engagement and development
- Observe and record behavioural responses and progress, providing feedback to the teaching team
- Support social interaction by encouraging participation in group activities and fostering positive behaviour
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organised learning environment at all times
- Build trusting relationships with pupils to promote emotional security and confidence
- Assist in preparing resources and adapting materials to meet individual learning requirements
Skills
- Experience working with individuals with autism or profound learning disabilities is highly desirable
- Previous experience in teaching or supporting children within special education settings
- Knowledge of special educational needs (SEN), particularly PMLD, is advantageous
- Ability to communicate effectively with children who have complex communication needs, utilising alternative methods if necessary
- Compassionate, patient, and adaptable approach to supporting children with diverse needs
- Strong organisational skills to manage multiple tasks efficiently whilst maintaining attention to detail
- Excellent interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with colleagues, pupils, and families
- Enthusiasm for supporting children’s development and fostering an inclusive environment
