Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant
Ortus Recruitment are delighted to be working in partnership with a welcoming and inclusive mainstream primary school based in Clapham Junction, who are seeking passionate and resilient Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistants for full-time roles starting from September 2025.
This is an ideal opportunity for psychology graduates who are enthusiastic about working with children and are considering a future in teaching, educational psychology, or child development. The role involves providing targeted classroom and 1:1 support to pupils – particularly those with special educational needs (SEN) and additional learning or emotional needs.
Responsibilities:
- Support pupils to reach their full academic and personal potential through consistent and proactive engagement.
- Assist with behaviour management and promote positive learning habits in and outside the classroom.
- Work closely with class teachers and SENCOs to ensure a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment.
- Provide tailored 1:1 or small group support to children with additional needs.
- Encourage participation, confidence, and independence across all areas of school life.
Ideal Candidate:
- A recent Psychology graduate or similar, with a strong understanding of child development.
- Experience supporting primary-aged children – particularly those with SEN, behavioural needs, or social-emotional challenges.
- Confident, empathetic, and resilient – able to build meaningful relationships with young learners.
- Proactive, enthusiastic, and keen to make a difference in a classroom environment.
- Interest in education, mental health, or special needs is highly desirable.
Requirements:
- A valid Enhanced DBS Certificate or willingness to apply for one.
- Legal right to work in the UK.
- Full CV with employment history covering the last 10 years (where possible), with any gaps explained.
