SEN Teaching Assistant
Ortus Recruitment is proud to be working alongside a supportive and inclusive mainstream primary school in Brixton that is looking to appoint a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team. This rewarding role is ideal for someone with experience supporting children with additional needs who is passionate about helping pupils overcome barriers to learning and reach their full potential. The successful candidate will work closely with children who require additional support, both inside and outside the classroom, providing personalised assistance that promotes their academic progress, independence, and wellbeing.
The Role
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will encounter supporting pupils with a range of needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder, Learning Difficulties, communication difficulties, and social, emotional, and behavioural needs. Support may be delivered on a 1:1 basis or within small groups, depending on the needs of the pupils. You will work alongside teachers and the SENCO to create a positive and nurturing learning environment where every child feels supported and valued.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide tailored support to pupils with additional learning and developmental needs.
- Work on a 1:1 basis and with small groups to support learning and engagement.
- Assist pupils in developing communication, social, and emotional skills.
- Support the delivery of targeted interventions and learning activities.
- Assist with personal care where required.
- Promote positive behaviour and encourage independence.
- Follow safeguarding, behaviour management, and health and safety procedures at all times.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and support staff to ensure pupils receive the best possible support.
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for someone who:
- Has previous experience supporting children or young people with SEN, particularly ASD, Learning Difficulties or complex needs.
- Is patient, empathetic, and committed to making a positive difference.
- Can remain calm and resilient when supporting pupils who may display challenging behaviours.
- Is confident adapting their approach to meet individual learning and communication needs.
- Enjoys working as part of a team and building positive relationships with pupils and colleagues.
- Is proactive, enthusiastic, and eager to contribute to the wider school community.
- Has a genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs.
