SEN Teaching Assistant (September 2026 Start)
Ortus Recruitment is currently recruiting a dedicated and enthusiastic SEN Teaching Assistant to join one of our welcoming partner primary schools in Wandsworth from September 2026. This is an excellent opportunity to support a pupil on a 1:1 basis within a mainstream primary school that has been recognised with a ‘Good’ Ofsted rating and is known for its inclusive approach and supportive leadership team. The Role
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will provide dedicated 1:1 support for a pupil with additional learning needs, helping them access the curriculum and achieve their individual learning goals. Working closely with the class teacher and SENCO, you’ll adapt classroom activities where necessary, encourage positive engagement, and provide both academic and emotional support throughout the school day. You’ll become an important part of a collaborative staff team that is committed to helping every child reach their full potential. This is a full-time, long-term position, working Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 4:00pm, with the opportunity to secure a permanent role.
We’re Looking For Someone Who Has:
- Experience working with children in a school, childcare, or similar educational environment.
- Previous experience supporting pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN), or a genuine willingness to work with children who have additional needs.
- A degree in any subject is desirable (Psychology, English, Maths, Science, Drama, Education and related subjects are welcomed), although applicants with relevant childcare qualifications and experience are also encouraged to apply.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- A calm, patient, and adaptable approach when supporting children with varying needs.
- Excellent organisational skills, reliability, and time management.
- The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a wider school team.
- Confidence in providing feedback to teachers and contributing to pupil progress.
