Ortus Recruitment are seeking a Student Support Assistant to join one of our partnered schools in Upper Sydenham. This role involves working closely with the class teachers to provide learning and emotional support, particularly for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

About the Role:

• As a Student Support Assistant, you will help the teacher create an engaging and inclusive classroom environment, adapting activities to suit each child’s individual learning style and needs.
• You’ll provide one-to-one and small-group support to students with SEND, ensuring they receive the guidance and encouragement needed to thrive throughout the school day.

We’re looking for someone who can build positive relationships with students, assist in preparing classroom resources, and contribute to creative lesson planning. The role offers both variety and reward, as you’ll play a key part in helping young learners reach their full potential.

Previous experience working with children with SEND is highly desirable.

Requirements:

• Experience supporting children one-to-one or in small groups.
• Background working with children who have special educational needs and disabilities.
• A genuine enthusiasm for helping children learn and grow.
• Flexibility and adaptability when faced with different challenges and behaviours.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build rapport with staff, pupils, and parents.
• Patience, empathy, and problem-solving skills to manage difficult situations calmly.
