Ortus Recruitment is seeking a dedicated and proactive individual to join a vibrant school as a SEN Teaching Assistant, providing tailored support to children who exhibit challenging behaviours. This rewarding role involves working in a specialised behaviour unit, supporting pupils across both Key Stage 1 (KS1) and Key Stage 2 (KS2).
You’ll work closely with children who have a range of complex needs, with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) being the most prevalent. The role may also involve elements of personal care.
This is a full-time, long-term opportunity, running Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM – 4:00 PM.
Responsibilities
As a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will:
- Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils, ensuring their individual needs are met
- Use a firm yet compassionate approach to encourage progress in both academic and emotional development
- Assist in behaviour management, promoting a safe and nurturing learning environment
Ideal candidates will have experience mentoring or managing behaviour in a school setting.
Requirements
To succeed in this role, you should have:
- Strong behaviour management skills
- Prior experience working with SEN children, particularly those with Autism
- A commitment to fostering positive relationships with pupils, staff, and families
- Availability for full-time work and a proactive, can-do attitude
Essential requirements:
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply through Ortus Recruitment)
- Proof of Right to Work in the UK
