Teaching Assistant (SALT)
Ortus Recruitment are looking to appoint dedicated and passionate Speech & Language Therapy Teaching Assistants to join our vibrant and inclusive mainstream primary school in Clapham from September 2024. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a supportive and dynamic team, where you will play a key role in implementing Speech and Language programmes in the classroom.

The Role
As a Speech & Language Therapy Teaching Assistant, you will:
- Plan and run communication activities for individuals and small groups with support from class teachers and Speech and Language Therapists (SaLT).
- Implement specific communication programmes devised by SaLT where necessary.
- Collaborate with class teachers to plan and prepare appropriate visuals and resources for lessons and specific communication groups.
- Assist in preparing transition packs including timetables, motivators, and other resources to support pupils in transitions around the school and offsite.
- Advocate for the communication needs of the students in your class.
- Record and document interventions run within the classroom.
- Develop and prepare visual materials for therapy and classroom sessions.
- Work under the supervision of a Speech and Language Therapist and a class teacher.
- Provide effective support and model good practice for less experienced colleagues.
- Maintain accurate written records of pupil observations.
- Assist in the provision of training to staff and colleagues.
- Carry out general Teaching Assistant responsibilities as required.
Key Requirements
- Experience working with children, preferably in an educational setting.
- Understanding of Speech and Language Therapy and its implementation in a classroom environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a team and under the guidance of SaLT and class teachers.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people.
