Unqualified SEN Teaching Assistant
Ortus Recruitment is currently working in partnership with a welcoming and well-resourced SEN school in the London Borough of Lambeth, which caters for pupils aged 4-19 with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and a range of additional learning needs. The school is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Unqualified SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team from September 2026. This is an excellent opportunity for graduates, aspiring teachers, youth workers, support workers, or individuals looking to gain valuable experience within a specialist educational setting. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting pupils both inside and outside the classroom, helping them access learning, develop independence, and achieve their individual goals. You will work closely with experienced teachers and support staff to create a positive, inclusive, and engaging learning environment.
Responsibilities
- Support pupils with Autism and additional learning needs on a 1:1 basis and in small groups.
- Assist with the delivery of lessons and learning activities.
- Encourage pupil participation in classroom and extracurricular activities.
- Record observations and contribute to pupil progress monitoring.
- Support pupils’ social, emotional, and behavioural development.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and other support staff.
- Help maintain a safe, positive, and well-organised learning environment.
- Promote inclusion and independence across all areas of school life.
The Ideal Candidate
- Passionate about supporting children and young people with additional needs.
- Positive, patient, and adaptable approach to learning support.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Previous experience working with children, young people, or vulnerable individuals is desirable but not essential.
- Graduates, youth workers, care workers, and aspiring education professionals are encouraged to apply.
