Are you an experienced Teaching Assistant with a passion for supporting children with Special Educational Needs?

Ortus Recruitment is looking for a compassionate and proactive 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in Balham from September 2026. This full-time role involves providing dedicated support to a Year 2 pupil with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), helping them to access learning, develop confidence, and thrive within the classroom.

Working Hours:
Monday to Friday | 8:30am – 4:00pm | Term Time Only

The Role

As a 1:1 Teaching Assistant, you will:

• Provide tailored one-to-one support throughout the school day.
• Deliver strategies outlined in the pupil’s individual support plan.
• Support the child with classroom routines, learning activities, and social interactions.
• Help manage transitions between lessons and different learning environments.
• Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and external professionals to ensure the child’s needs are consistently met.
• Encourage independence while promoting a positive and engaging learning experience.

What We’re Looking For

The ideal candidate will have:

• Previous experience supporting children with ASD and ADHD in a school setting.
• A strong understanding of SEN and inclusive classroom practices.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• A calm, patient, and nurturing approach.
• The ability to build positive relationships with pupils, staff, and parents.
• Flexibility and confidence in adapting to the individual needs of the child.

Desirable Qualifications (Not Essential)

• Teaching Assistant qualification (Level 2 or Level 3 preferred).
• Previous experience in a 1:1 SEN support role.
• Additional SEN-related training, such as Autism Awareness, Team Teach, or behaviour management, is advantageous.
