Are you an experienced Classroom Assistant with a passion for supporting children with Special Educational Needs?

Ortus Recruitment is working in partnership with a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Streatham to recruit a dedicated Classroom Assistant for a September 2026 start. This is a full-time, term-time opportunity supporting pupils within the school’s Autism Resource Base (ARB) and mainstream classrooms. The successful candidate will have previous experience supporting children with SEN and be comfortable providing personal care where required, ensuring every child receives the support they need to flourish both academically and personally.

Working Hours:
Monday to Friday | 8:30am – 4:00pm | Term Time Only

The Role

As a Classroom Assistant, you will:

• Support pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and other additional needs across the Resource Base and mainstream classes.
• Deliver tailored support to help pupils engage with learning and achieve their individual targets.
• Assist with communication, emotional regulation, and social development.
• Provide personal care when required, maintaining each child’s dignity and wellbeing at all times.
• Work collaboratively with teachers, the SENCO, therapists, and other support staff.
• Create a positive, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment where every pupil can succeed.
• Support pupils with English as an Additional Language (EAL) where appropriate.

Candidate Requirements

To be considered for this role, you should have:

• Previous experience supporting children with Special Educational Needs within a school or similar setting.
• A sound understanding of Autism and other additional learning needs.
• A willingness to provide personal care as part of your daily responsibilities.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with pupils and colleagues.
• A patient, adaptable, and proactive approach to supporting children.
• Confidence working as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Availability to work Monday to Friday during term time.

Experience supporting children with English as an Additional Language (EAL) would be beneficial but is not essential.
