Learning Support Assistant
Ortus Recruitment is delighted to be partnering with a well-regarded mainstream primary school in Balham that is looking to appoint enthusiastic and committed Learning Support Assistants to join their team as soon as possible.

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will play a key role in helping pupils access the curriculum and develop confidence in their learning. You may be supporting a child on a 1:1 basis, working with small intervention groups, or providing general classroom support alongside the class teacher. The school welcomes applicants who have experience working with children in schools, nurseries, youth settings, childcare environments, or other professional support roles.
Responsibilities:
- Supporting pupils throughout the school day to help them engage with learning.
- Working closely with teachers to deliver tailored support within the classroom.
- Assisting children with additional learning, communication, or behavioural needs.
- Encouraging positive relationships, confidence, and independence.
- Helping to create a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment.
- Supporting pupils during lessons, activities, and transitions throughout the day.
The Ideal Candidate:
- Has previous experience working with children in a professional setting.
- Has experience as a Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, Youth Worker, Nursery Practitioner, Support Worker, or similar role.
- Demonstrates patience, empathy, and strong communication skills.
- Can build positive relationships with pupils and staff.
- Is proactive, reliable, and keen to contribute to school life.
- Has a genuine passion for supporting children’s development and education.
- Experience supporting children with SEND is beneficial but not essential.
