SEMH Teaching Assistant – Sutton
We are seeking a motivated and dedicated Teaching Assistant with an SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) focus to join our team at a primary school as a Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and other support staff to provide high-quality support for students with SEMH needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supporting teachers in planning and delivering effective lessons for students with SEMH needs
- Providing one-to-one support to students with SEMH needs, helping them to stay on task and manage their emotions
- Assisting with the management of challenging behaviour and providing appropriate interventions when necessary
- Supporting the development of social skills and emotional literacy through small group work and individual support
- Working collaboratively with the wider team to ensure that students’ individual needs are met and progress is monitored and evaluated
Requirements:
- Experience of working with students with SEMH needs in a school setting
- A good understanding of SEMH and how it can impact on a student’s ability to learn and develop
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents/carers
- The ability to remain calm and focused in challenging situations, with a flexible approach to problem-solving
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
Qualifications:
- A relevant Level 3 qualification in a related field (e.g. Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools, Childcare and Education)
- A good standard of literacy and numeracy, with GCSEs in English and Maths (or equivalent)
