Teaching Assistant
Ortus Recruitment is excited to partner with a fantastic mainstream primary school in the Clapham Common area, who are seeking an experienced and compassionate Teaching Assistant to support a non-verbal child with Autism in their Key Stage 2 class. This is a rewarding opportunity to work closely with a child to help them reach their full potential in a supportive and inclusive learning environment. The role is full-time, with working hours from 08:30am to 4:00pm, Monday to Friday, term time only.
About the Role:
As a Teaching Assistant, you will:
- Provide 1:1 support to a non-verbal child with Autism in the KS2 setting.
- Assist in developing the child’s social skills, confidence, and independence.
- Work closely with the class teacher to create and maintain a positive, inclusive learning environment.
- Use tailored strategies and techniques to help manage and reduce challenging behaviour.
- Support the child’s educational and emotional development through a variety of learning activities.
What We’re Looking For:
- Experience working with children with Autism, particularly non-verbal students, is highly desirable.
- A caring and patient individual with a passion for making a difference in the lives of children with special educational needs.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with students, teachers, and other staff members.
- A commitment to supporting the child’s progress and ensuring they feel valued and supported in the classroom.

Requirements:
- Right to work in the UK.
- Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).
- Experience supporting children with Autism or in an SEN setting is preferred but not essential – a positive attitude and passion for supporting students are most important.
