Ortus Recruitment is currently seeking a dedicated, adaptable, and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join a friendly mainstream primary school in Brockley. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working with children across different age groups and supporting pupils with a range of educational needs, including SEN.

The Role

As a Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting both teachers and pupils, helping to create a positive and engaging learning environment.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Supporting the class teacher with the preparation and delivery of lessons.
• Providing 1:1 and small-group support to pupils.
• Assisting children with classroom activities, learning tasks, and homework support.
• Helping to set up learning resources and maintain an organised classroom environment.
• Encouraging pupils’ social, emotional, and academic development.
• Supporting children with additional needs, including SEN, both individually and within group settings.
• Working collaboratively with teaching staff, parents, and external professionals when required.
• Assisting with administrative duties such as preparing resources, photocopying, filing, and displays.
• Supporting extracurricular activities and after-school clubs when needed.

Requirements

We are looking for candidates who have:

• Previous experience working with children in a school or classroom setting.
• Experience supporting children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) on a 1:1 basis and in small groups (desirable).
• Experience working with younger children, including EYFS pupils (or nursery/baby room experience).
• A flexible and proactive approach to supporting different year groups and learning needs.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Patience, resilience, and a genuine passion for helping children succeed.
• The ability to adapt to different situations and effectively manage challenging behaviours.
