Ortus Recruitment is proud to be working in partnership with a ‘GOOD’ Ofsted rated mainstream primary school in Tooting, which is looking to appoint a dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a pupil with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and speech and language needs. Our partnered school is a two-form entry school, with a supporting SEND Team and a very welcoming Senior Leadership Team and they seek for a candidate who will be a role model in and out of the classroom. Role Overview:
- Location: Mainstream Primary School – Tooting
- Start Date: September 2025
- Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am–4:00pm (Tuesdays until 4:30pm)
- Contract Type: Long-term placement
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver 1:1 tailored support to a pupil with ASD and communication needs
- Use appropriate strategies and resources to encourage speech, language and social development
- Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and external therapists to implement personalised plans
- Support the child’s participation in class activities and help build independence and self-confidence
- Maintain clear and sensitive communication with school staff and parents/carers
- Provide personal care when necessary, with professionalism and respect
What We’re Looking For:
- A Level 3 qualification or higher (in any subject)
- A minimum of 6 months’ experience supporting children in a UK primary school
- Familiarity with the challenges faced by children with ASD and speech/language difficulties
- Excellent spoken and written English
- Confidence to work flexibly across age groups
- A calm, nurturing and patient approach, with a can-do attitude
Bonus Skills (Desirable but not essential):
- Knowledge or use of PECS, Makaton, or other alternative communication methods
- Additional training related to SEND (e.g. Autism awareness, Team Teach, de-escalation techniques)
